Christmas Lights Switch-on

Maryport Christmas lights will be switched on at 5.00pm on Saturday 24 November. The switch-on will be preceded by an afternoon of fun & entertainment for all the family on Senhouse Street, commencing at 1.00pm, organised by the Town Council. Christmas Trees are being provided courtesy of Iggesund, positioned at Netherhall Corner, the Aquarium, the Cottage Hospital & on the corner of Brook Street, Flimby.

Remembrance Day

On Sunday November 11, Church Services will be held at St Nicholas’ Church, Flimby, at 10.00am, followed by a wreath laying ceremony, & at St Mary’s Church, Maryport, in the afternoon. The Maryport Service will be preceded by a formal march, commencing in Fleming Square at 2.30pm, & will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at Maryport Memorial Gardens.

Maryport Junior Community Champions Awards

The Council has introduced an annual award scheme in recognition of young Maryport people who have made a worthy contribution to the community. Nominations are being sought through local schools & organisations, & Maryport Schools’ Council is assisting in the operation of the scheme through assessment of nominees for consideration.

Harbourside Sculpture

The Council has received many positive comments welcoming the new harbourside sculpture. The design of the feature is based around important aspects of Maryport’s development, including: its Roman history; the influence of Humphrey Senhouse; mining; railways; shipbuilding; & other maritime connections including The Titanic & The Bounty.
